Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light

The Old Astronomer to His Pupil
Reach me down my Tycho Brahe, I would know him when we meet,
When I share my later science, sitting humbly at his feet;
He may know the law of all things, yet be ignorant of how
We are working to completion, working on from then to now.
Pray remember that I leave you all my theory complete,
Lacking only certain data for your adding, as is meet,
And remember men will scorn it, 'tis original and true,
And the obliquy of newness may fall bitterly on you.
But, my pupil, as my pupil you have learned the worth of scorn,
You have laughed with me at pity, we have joyed to be forlorn,
What for us are all distractions of men's fellowship and smiles;
What for us the Goddess Pleasure with her meretricious smiles.
You may tell that German College that their honor comes too late,
But they must not waste repentance on the grizzly savant's fate.
Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.
-Sarah Williams
PS. Just reread HP 7 to be prepared for November. Can't remember the last time I cried/laughed so much. So amazing. JK Rowling is a master at weaving emotions. And I know not everyone loved her epilogue, but I thought, and still do, that it was a perfect way to answer questions while still leaving it open for new stories to arise. Ever read fanfiction? I listen to a podcast of it when craving the magicalness of HP when there is no new books coming out. I'm a geek. and proud.

Anewed

Loving MacKenzie.
(via)

Ever wonder what gives the world that wonderful smell while it rains?

I have my window open right now, just to smell that as I write my paper.

While sipping hot herbal tea for my sore throat.

I love gray skies.

And the soft drumming of rain on the roof as I drift to sleep.

It's as if the earth is taking a soothing shower.

And don't we all feel so much better when we are clean and refreshed?

I know I do.

Makin' Babies

Today the cycle of like just randomly popped into my head (aka all day lower back pain)

So I was congratulating myself on making it past the age of sixteen without being pregnant, and therefore, escaping the possibility of being on "Sixteen and Pregnant".

16-pregnant-mtv-show

.....

Then a thought popped into my head.

What if I ended up on "I Didn't Know I was Pregnant"??

I can't decide which would be worse.

I've got a bug

... a travel bug!!

I haven't been anywhere in a couple of years tear :(  but thanks to my parents taking me on many a trip, I looove traveling. I mean who doesn't? Well I suppose some people like to vacation doing the same thing every year, which is fun, but there are so many things to see!!

I've been drooling over some of our pictures from the last family trip we took (minus my sister, so I guess it was a parents + michelle trip) in Portugal and Morocco.

[Lisbon I believe, pretty close to our hotel]

{Lisbon isn't even my favorite city ever, however awesome it is, but *somehow* I think I could stand to live there for a few years... at least. No?}

I loveeee exploring places that are more ruins than preserved!

{This is where I died. It's up a huuuge mountain and has amazingggg views. Seriously.}

{Of course Morocco was AMAZING too. Highly recommended}

{Good-bye Morocco!}

(We may or may not have gotten into trouble with the guards by taking these pictures before getting on the ferry*.)

Does anyone else feel like they never fully appreciate all that they see when they are actually on vacation??

*That ferry ride was kinda hell-ish. I didn't mind tooo much, but the boat was totally rocking. Like you couldn't walk across the ship without bracing yourself. Limited seating. Multiple hours. Many, many, many Moroccans stuffed into the boat, and VERY intent on getting off first. Almost got trampled. It was intense.

Sometimes

Sometimes I wish I could gather up all my favorite people and keep them with me all the time.

..... And definitely, definitely not, be away from all of them at once.

Types of weirdos

Okay this may sound like kind of a harsh post, but really, it's just meant to be entertaining.

So as far as I can tell there are a few distinct categories of weird people. I have taken the liberty to rate their weirdness scale from 1-10, 1 being someone who you practically have a crush on (not a romantic crush, the kind where you just want to be best friends forever) and 10 is me running away because I am so uncomfortable.

1. Those who are super-duper nice, so nice that the make you feel like a horrible person for thinking they are kinda weird. Weirdness factor:5-6 You still talk to them because they are so nice and because you can still carry on a conversation without wanting to escape.

2. Those who you can't tell right away are weird, but after a few minutes you recognize them. These guys are alright, and may just make a couple odd comments that you don't quite get, or laugh at something that you didn't think was funny at all. You're friends with them at work/class, but probably won't call them to hang out. Weirdness factor: 4-5

3. Those weird people that think they are super awesome but are, in fact, weird. They are usually also kind of mean. Because they think they are awesome and think they are better than you. To each his own. Weirdness factor: Ranges a lot, but I would say their overall coolness factor goes down like 30% because they are rude. Which, sadly, puts some people in the negatives.

4. Those who recognize their weirdness and run with it. They find enjoyment out of freaking people out and pushing the limit. They are usually the ones you can spot a mile away. I like that they are comfortable with themselves and go with it. Then again, they usually make me really uncomfortable. Good for stories though. Weirdness Factor: 7-10...to 11?

5. Those who call themselves nerds or say they are weird, but are, in reality awesome. They are quirky but not weird, an individual but not off in their own world. Basically I want to meet these people. Weirdness factor: 1-3. Can range a little depending on how eccentric they actually are.

Note: For all the types listed, except for the meanies, their weirdness scores do not affect their overall coolness factor. Most of the times they are pretty cool. In fact I feel like most famous people throughout time have probably been in one of these categories.

Did I forget any??

PS. I don't think I am excluded from these categories... in fact I could very well freak people out all the time. Buuuut I would hope that I am not #4. I mean if I am, I totally need to start freaking people out on purpose or something.

PS.PS. This is a random post, but one of my new roommates is #3. I mean she can be nice, but I can tell she is one of those people that will be mean behind your back. We will not be becoming good friends. Which is okay, because I am sure she thinks she is way too awesome to talk to me outside of our apartment. I mean she has made out with guys all over campus. And has a list of all of those places. Doesn't that make her automatically the coolest person on campus??

Madness

Is it odd that probably my favorite quote from Hamlet is:

 "Lord, we know what we are, but/ know not what we may be." (Act 4. Scene 5)

Spoken by the mad Ophelia.

Obviously there are tons of quotes from this play that we always hear :To be or not to be, that is the question, etc.

But I really like what Ophelia was saying there. Because we can recognize what we are in this moment, but can we every really know what we can become, what we can accomplish, what we can influence?

PS. Since I am writing my paper on the differences in the portrayls of Ophelia in Branaugh's version and the version with Mel Gibson, here are her two scenes of madness from the two films.

Which is your favorite portrayal? Which one makes you feel like she is truly mad and makes you feel more when you watch it?

Gibson version with Helena Bonham-Carter:

(Start at the seven minute marker)

Branaugh version with Kate Winslet:
Winslet's version is much longer as Branaugh put the ENTIRE play into the film.

Part 2 after Laertes comes back

Personally I loved the Kate Winslet version better. I just found it more haunting and pitiable. I felt like Helena could have done an AMAZING job, but it just didn't do it for me. I was kind of disappointed. When kate is cracking up in that second video it is totally unsettling and sad.

You make me swoon kate, with you amazingness.

Happy Surprises

elizabethmessina_1245

For Me:
Getting a letter in the mail.
Finding a dollar in your jeans.
Waking up only to realize you get to sleep in.
Coming home to dinner already made.
Having the door held open for you.
Canceled class.
A hello from an old friend.
Finding a cute dress for a steal.
Loving a book you didn't think you would like.
Getting a quiet moment while the sun sets/rises.
Netflix in the mail.

For others:
Baking for a friend.
Sending a text of love or calling a friend.
Smiling really big at a passing stranger.
Letting cars in before you.
Doing the dishes.
Buying flowers.
Cleaning the bathroom.
Leaving out a book/ article for someone that you know would like.
Paying attention to the children/pets in your life.
Getting the newspaper on a cold morning.
Heating up the water for hot chocolate.
Get their favorite candy randomly.

I think the best things about these little surprises are that they are surprises, no expectations or anticipation or waiting. I love when I get surprised by any of those things listed above because you know you were being thought of and that the other person wanted to do something for you without you asking or requesting anything.
So what did I leave out??

It's the little gestures

(via iamthecrime)

I just love when a simple phone call makes your entire day.

When a few words from someone perks you up, and puts a smile on your face all day long.

.... and I love getting voice mails that make you laugh, especially because you can play them over and over again.

Sometimes, just what we need is to hear the right person's voice, and to just listen.
