(You can tell I'm in summer school by the amount of naps I take)

"For he is the same yesterday, to-day, and forever; and the way is prepared for all men from the foundation of the world, if it so be that they repent and come unto him.
For he that diligently seeketh shall find"

1 Nephi 10:18-19

Really enjoying my Book of Mormon classes so far. It's like English, but we are studying scriptures!

PS. Had to bring in one poem we loved and one we hated for my Fundamental Literary Interpretations class and I brought in this gem by Mandy. I may have to frame all her poems and put them on my wall someday. Love them. (Hers was the one I loved... duhh. Oh and if you read this Mandy, my teacher said to tell you good job!)

Anddd I'm Off!!!

Goodbye California, hello Utah!

Dear Utah,

I hope you will not be quite so hot as CA during this time of year, though I understand you do still get hot. I was kina hoping to stay cooler, so it would be pretty awesome if you were. I can't wait to see your mountains all summer, instead of these dried out hills that I am used to seeing. Please be good to me.

Love,
Michelle

Sleep

Confession: Okay, I'm all about sleeping in, but since the semester ended a few weeks ago my sleeping schedule has gotten cuh-razy. Pretty much I have been staying up till at least 3, closer to 5 (:30).

I mean, what the?

And this has been leading me to sleep in very, very late. I'd disclose the times, but I am a bit too embarrassed to say. Especially the time I woke up today. I was horrified when I looked at the time. Whoops!

So any tips to get my sleeping schedule back on time? Try to go to sleep a little earlier and then wake up way early so that I am tired for the next night? I was intrigued by Natalie's post about Trader Joe's Melatonin, but I have been wary of dependence on sleep drugs.

PS. Last night I watched How to Marry a Millionaire. Wayyy cute if you haven't seen it. I'm beginning to fall in love with Marilyn Monroe movies. I may or may not have also watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes yesterday too.

Driving

{Lookeee! Don't I look so blissful that I was back with my friend??}

So whenever I go on roadtrips, I am always the one in the back sleeping. I never drive, mainly because people know that I'm not the best driver.

Driving through the mountains as  we made out way to Rexburg, ID going through Salt Lake City first, I was reminded of my upcoming drive to BYU for the summer term and grew concerned of my ability to a) drive there without falling asleep b) getting lost and c) getting my car UP the mountain as it has a hard time on our local hills.

But I'm sure it'll be fine, and the video below sure made me feel better about my driving skills. When I first saw it I was in Idaho with a bunch of friends and I literally had tears streaming down my face. When I showed it to my sister, I was cracking up but it wasn't quite as funny. I hope your experience watching it is like my first time!

Question:

Is the trend of big statement headbands about to go out? I still love them personally, but I know that I drool over pictures of them in the computer, and when it comes to actually wearing them I hesitate.

Tell me, what do you think of this one?

Delphine Headband
I can't tell how it would look, if I would feel absolutely foolish wearing it. Maybe with my bangs and curling my hair it wouldn't be quite so eye-catching? Am I just being foolish? Is it ugly? It that trend dead as a doorknob?

I was thinking it would look good in the winter with my black coat, a little color y'know?

....oh, I don't know....

While we are looking at things I am drooling over, check these out:

Also from Etsy:

Lace Ribbon Headband in Black or White
I love me some lace.

This:

And this.

I'd marry the Anthropologie sale section if I could.

Oh, and I suppose $15 wouldn't be too bad for this lampshade.

Dear Summer,

I am {more} excited for you to come this year than normal.

I am excited to get some sort of tan on my pasty skin {instead of staying inside and telling myself that my skin will love me in 20 years. I don't need to look sickly for another year}

I am excited to experience summer in a new house {can start moving in on the 22nd!}

Aaaand last but not least, I am excited to get a new swimsuit. Not normally something I look forward to, and to be honest, I am only looking forward to it if I can wear one like this:

Personally, I am very glad that more of a retro look is coming in. And I appreciate that this suit is a little longer on the bottom.

Do you guys have any favorite swimsuit styles or looking forward to anything about summer in particular??

Dear Weather,

I would *really* appreciate it if you got cooler.

I enjoy the overwhelming warmth you give us every year, but enough is enough.

It is now the end of September, and the 100 degree heat just isn't cute anymore.

If you need a model, please look to Seattle or London weather.

Much love,

Michelle

P.S. In a compromise, I will wear my flip-flops in the winter when it isn't raining (as it usually isn't) in a tribute to the hotter days of summer

umm thanks?

Today while buying wayyy too much stuff at origins, my sister was trying to figure out what shade of foundation to get with the help of the sales woman. My sister remarked on the fact that she had been using my foundation and the woman was very suprised and remarked on how different of skin tones we have.

(to my sister) "You are much tanner than her! It doesn't match your skin color!"

(now turning to me) " You are white! you are REALLY white! you are so white!"

Me "gee thanks..."

I mean what do you say to that in a society where being tan is prized?? I thought we, and by *we* I mean society, was beginning to move past this skin-killing fad and going for a more natural look.

Oh well, I have embraced this pale-ness since I stopped playing soccer and hopefully in twenty years this shunning will pay off!

P.S. I am trying to sew a new duvet cover because the comforter I am using now was meant for my dorm room and matches NOTHING in my room. Trying to be thrifty, but knowing me it will be *way* more expensive and not even be usable.

The frilly apron is pretty much as Donna Reed as I get.

Gardens in the Summer...

are just the best!

(besides the bugs and heat, of course)

Mine is
at full bloom right now
<-----------

I planted
-two watermelon plants (the crawly one taking over the garden plot, without producing any fruit I might add)

-Two zuchinni squash plants

-One yellow squash plant -------->
(that's the first yellow squash that's growing, but there sure
have been a lot of blooms!)

-Four tomato plants
(which did better last year in the I-look-healthy-category, but ironically I'm getting more fruit this year...)

-Two basil plants, and a few that just took to seed from last year which made me feel like I had a little bit of a green thumb.

-Some herbs like chives and cilantro and dill (the cilantro and dill were the first casualties of the season.)

-AND a plant that I forgot what it was and was just hoping it would have some sort of vegetable attatched to it so that I would know what it was.

So I found this....

Not a clue to what it was.... some sort of half vegetable half cactus?
(Incase you can't tell, there are like a million needles pointing out of that thing...)

So I called my mom over to ask her if she knew what it was, and she said it looked like a cucumber.

Ohhhhh, yeah, that's right....

next year I am SO making sure to write down and mark which plant is which

......because I also forgot what the watermelon plants were and what squash plants were which, and before the dill and cilantro died, I was on the fence about which was which until I smelled them
